  1. It’s very clear what’s happening here. Both ‘sides’ of this are actually right:

    1) This is a legitimate automated Verizon number that calls for bill reminders. As a VZ customer, I’ve gotten this call.

    2) Scammers have the ability to ‘spoof’ a phone number, meaning it will show up on your caller ID as a number other than their actual one. In this case, they use a known payment reminder line to make their scam appear more legitimate. I have not gotten this call. My guess is (from the comments above) that the message is slightly different, however. While the legit call ends with the actual VZ number on your caller ID, asking you to call them back (thought the phone# on your bill will do just fine as well if that makes your more comfortable). The scam call ends with a series of key presses designed to get you to make a fraudulent payment over the phone so they can steal your cc/checking account info.

Obviously if you don’t have VZ, you won’t fall for this scam. Scammers play the numbers game though. If you are a VZ customer, you can protect yourself by just calling back the # on your bill, or logging in online.

  2. You’re all idiots. Pay your verizon bills and do a little more research than ‘the first google result’

This is a legitimate call from Verizon because you’re all too poor or stupid to pay your bill on time.

    • Don’t have a stupid bill you idiot. Don’t have a stupid account.

    • Longcock is absolutely right. It is Verizon’s autodial unmanned reminder line. When you start to get close to being overdue on your bill, you get this call if you have Verizon or Fios. Some of you say “I don’t have verizon” well it is possible that someone may have had your phone number in the past and it is in Verizon’s database under someon else’s name.

    • Everyone who received this call is it behind on their bill . You actually took time out of your life to help people but instead insulted them. You are an asshole and a total waste of space

  5. The number is actually Verizon’s call center. They do follow-up calls but actually do have info if it was given to them regardless of a valid acct. I was called because I was used as an alternate number but have T-Mobile for service. When I verified info, I only used my last name and nothing else.

  7. 888-423-0900 – this is a hacker – they tried to line up your on-line information with a telephone number so they can get access to any on line charges you make – this way they can lift your credit card number

  13. Hi all-
Ok, I got a call from this number today. I read all of your responses, so I wanted to find out the deal. I used my magic jack phone number.
It SOUNDS JUST LIKE COMCAST AND VERIZONS automated account info. It asked for my # associated with my “verizon” account.
I DO have a Verizon account, but I knew it was up-to-date.
I put in a disconnected former weathe recordingr number.
It then said “Ok we found your account, would you like to play your overdue bill?”
    I said “yes”
The automated said “please hold to ” pay by Bill Matrix for a 3.00 fee, please hold”
OH YEAH THIS IS FRAUD AND THEY ARE TRYING TO SWINDLE
Please report to Verizon or FTC, I guess.
I am locking it and labeling it in my phone, lest there be class-action lawsuit l.

      I called the official Verizon
I couldn’t get clarification that they called me, I didn’t realize I had a past due amount. I said I needed to know what # they called me with. She couldn’t respond, and didnt know anything abt. It, but this official number sounded the exact same as the number we are all commenting on’s messages and queries. Hard to say , but I still say if it calls you (# above), call Verizon yourself and start from there
      I called : 1-800-837-4966
      ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
      That’s legitimate
So now it’s possible this really was Verizon ?
